Editors notes: When we originally sent this weeks Power Letter out, Thursday, one dear Member responded with comments and changes! We have heard her call and made the changes to the ActiFax Blasts per her suggestion! You spoke, we listened.

Carter,

I agree full heartedly that many of our Republican Leaders have hidden in the closet when it comes to leadership and standing up to the Dem's. However, I want them to do something much more public than enter a statment into the Congressional Record. They need to hold a press conference and publicly state that they support this President and Commander In Chief in his fight for victory in Iraq. They need to let the American people see who among them has the courage to see this battle through to victory and who would rather see America in defeat. If you put out an actifax with that demand, I would be thrilled to send it.

Thanks for all you do. - Dianne

Dianne,

I like your idea. You are right on target. So, I have added the key paragraph you suggest to the ActiFax Blast and asked Bryan to henceforth substitute the new, improved version for the old. I have also asked him to advise Members of the ActiFax change -- made at the suggestion of a Laptop Leader!

Thank you so much for your help. That kind of Laptop Leader involvement is what makes Laptop so effective and exciting.

Carter

Now, more than ever, our troops in Iraq need your help!

Last night, the President outlined a plan for ending the sectarian violence, destroying the radical militias, stopping the terrorist invasion from Syria and Iran - and, yes, winning the War in Iraq.

As expected, the leftwing Democrats immediately ridiculed the President, once again undercutting our troops, and demanding defeat. And equally as expected, the Republican "leadership" in the Senate and the House slinked off into the shadows and continued their deadly silence.

That's why I am asking you to join me now in demanding that the Republican "leadership" end their cowardly abandonment of our troops under fire (troops they sent into harm's way!) and openly support victory in the War in Iraq. And we want them to do it on the pages of the official Congressional Record for all the world to see. In no uncertain terms. NOW!

If our troops can stand up to insurgents, invaders, terrorists, and crazed Moslem mullahs, the least the Republicans can do is stand up to Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and their leftwing media lapdogs. And it's time for us to teach them how!

Click here to send your ActiFax Blasts to the entire Republican leadership of the U.S. Senate and House telling them to stop hiding behind their desks and start supporting victory in Iraq (that's 57 ActiFax Blasts for just $20). We tired of them allowing the leftwing Democrats to undercut our soldiers and undermine the War. And we expect them to openly state their support for both on the official pages of the Congressional Record - in no uncertain terms. The Republicans need to learn the meanings of two terms they either never knew or have long since forgotten: "Leadership" and "Victory." And it's time for us to teach them both!

Dear Laptop Leader,

It's time for us to teach the top U.S. Senate and House Republicans two new words they seem never to have learned, or have long since forgotten:

"Leadership" and "Victory."

I'm sure you saw the President's speech to the nation last night. Or, if not, you've read about it or watched the coverage.

Standing alone at the mike in a stark White House library, he announced some bold new moves to take the battle to the terrorists and win the War in Iraq.

He laid out an aggressive new plan to end the sectarian violence shredding the streets of Baghdad ... to disarm the radical militias and subdue their bloodthirsty warlords ... and to interdict the Islamic terrorists invading Iraq from afar.

He asked for the nation's support as he gave our brave young soldiers the tools they need to finish the job on freedom's front lines.

And how did the Senate and House Republican "leaders" react? Well, they hid under their beds with their ears to the ground and their fingers quivering in the air.

I think you'll agree, that's hardly the posture you would expect from a group of preening "leaders" who sent our sons and daughters into harm's way in the first place, is it?

Oh, the Democrats turned out - bashing the President, ridiculing the Iraqi people, undercutting our troops, and giving open aid and comfort to the radical Islamic allies whose water they have so willingly carried ever since the going got tough.

In fact, just to make sure we got the point, they trotted out Dick Durbin to give their official response to the President.

Of course, you'll remember that the last time we saw Dick Durbin at center stage he was accusing our own troops of being the real enemy in the War in Iraq ... of using Nazi storm trooper tactics to brutalize the kindly terrorists.

So much for the Democrats' response ... And so little for the Republicans.

Make no mistake about, the Republican leadership in the Senate and the House could - and should -- have amassed on the steps of the Capitol to show their support for our troops. After all, we are at war.

But, they were nowhere in sight.

They could - and should - have gone to the Senate and House Press Galleries where they knew a whole phalanx of reporters would be eager to cover their every comment.

But, they were nowhere in sight.

They could - and should - have announced to the world from their homes, their offices, even the Georgetown cocktail circuit where they so often prefer to alight, that they stood strong behind our troops.

But, of course, they were nowhere in sight.

That's right, late last evening, while our courageous troops were over in Iraq giving their lives, the top Republicans in the Senate and House (with the single exception of John McCain) couldn't even bother giving them the time of day.

I think you'll agree that's shameful. Our nation needed a bold display of courage. The Republicans painted yet another profile in cowardice.

And it is only going to get worse - unless you and I act now.

Time and again over the past four years - in virtually every major political battle our nation has faced -- you have had to provide the Leadership while the Republican politicians wrung their hands and shook in their shoes.

And now, with the War in Iraq on the line, I am asking you to join me in once again pulling a Laptop Victory out of the jaws of political defeat.

In short, it's time for you and me to teach the Republican politicians those two vital words they either never learned or have long since forgotten: "Leadership" and "Victory."

And for the sake of our soldiers, we need to do it now!

It's time to tell the Republicans to end
their deadly silence!

Dick Durbin's official Democrat response to the President - delivered in the front of the very press from which the Republicans were hiding, I might add - was everything you likely expected. And worse.

Still obviously smarting from the beating you gave him when he labeled our troops Nazis, he made the obligatory, passing reference to "supporting" our soldiers. Which, of course, to the leftwing Democrats, means undermining them in the field, and then forcing them to flee in utter defeat.

And, he took the usual leftwing line of disparaging the Iraqi people who have thrice risked their lives to vote by the millions for a free and open society. He chose to ignore the fact that the people in 14 of Iraq's 18 provinces live in peace ... that they have joined in isolating the terrorist stronghold of Anbar ... and that they are taking the lead in targeting Moqtoda al-Sadr's radical militias.

Instead he took the low road of accusing the Iraqi's of "calling 911" - a cruel and callous exploitation of our own national day of tragedy. And he urged the American people to cut and run from Iraq - where we are facing the terrorist cutthroats on their own soil, thousands of miles from our own cities and towns.

And almost without exception, the response from the Republicans in Congress has been nothing short of deadly silence.

They could have taken the liberal Senator from Illinois to task for his cynical use of 9-11. But, of course, they didn't.

They could have talked about the progress we are making throughout Iraq. Of the peaceful villages far removed from the throes of war ... of the people of Baghdad who go to work, open their shops, care for their families, and sup with their neighbors despite the daily dun of terrorist fire ... of the schools being built, the roads being laid, and the hopes being raised in the Arab world's first democracy.

But, of course, they didn't.

They could have cited battles being won, terrorists being routed, and the remarkable, resilient performance of the world's greatest fighting force - the United States military.

Bud, sadly, shamefully, they didn't.

Instead, they stood silently by -- just as they did a day earlier when the far left feted their favorite poster boy, Richard Clarke (that's with an "e," to distinguish him from the common Clarks amongst the hoi polloi). The honored speaker at the leftwing Center for American Progress, Mr. Clarke unburdened himself of the outrageous opinion that because we are defending freedom in Iraq, we had "lost the respect of the Arab world."

He explained, in his customary condescending smugness, that the only way to regain it was to get out now. And then for the President to become "fully engaged" in the Israeli-Palestinian "peace process."

And - you guessed it - not one Republican stood up to say the obvious:

"That the disgraced Mr. Clarke with an "e" had been fired as the NSC's "counterterrorism coordinator" after miserably failing to persuade Bill Clinton to counter terrorism - and then undermining George Bush's efforts to finally take the offensive.

"That the "respect of the Arab world" - which produced (and applauded) the 9-11 terrorists ... whose mad mullahs have for decades labeled the U.S. the "Great Satan" ... and whose minions regularly gather in the streets to demand our demise really doesn't amount to a hill of beans now, does it?

"And that we all know that leftwing calls for being "fully engaged" in the bogus Israeli-Palestinian "peace process" are really nothing more than duplicitous demands for the total surrender of our only real ally in the entire Mid East.

No, the Republican politicians in Washington haven't bothered making any of those points, have they? Because that would require that they come out from under their beds, wouldn't it? And the only time they have done that in the past four years is when you have drug them out kicking and screaming.

Well, now, more than ever, it's time to do it again. And we'll even tell them how!

They can start - right now -- by entering bold, unequivocal statements in support of the President -- and our troops -- in the official transcripts of the daily Congressional Record. Nothing could be easier. Or more persuasive.

The Congressional Record, as you likely already know, is the official publication recording the comments of every member of Congress, every hour of every day.

If a member says something on the floor of the Senate or the House, it's in the Record the very next morning. And, in fact, even if he or she for some reason can't make it to the floor, they can still get their comments in the Congressional Record simply by writing them down and sticking them in what's known as the "Extension of Remarks."

So, even if a Republican "leader" in the Senate or House is afraid to show his or her face, they can still show their support of our troops by putting it on paper and publishing it in the Record.

And, frankly, I don't think that's too much to ask, do you?

That's why I am asking you to join me in telling every single member of the Republican Senate and House "leadership" that we expect them to go "on Record" in support of the President. And our troops.

We expect them to do it immediately. And we expect to see it in writing. We know they can do it. And we expect them to get it done. Now.

Will you "take a stand on either hand
and keep the bridge with me"?

Let me put it bluntly: I am increasingly, and uneasily, convinced that we are going to lose the War in Iraq if you don't help take the lead in giving the Republicans a vocabulary lesson.

Our own experience tells us that if you don't lead, they won't follow. And if you don't set the terms of victory, they will meekly accept defeat.

Oh, I know it shouldn't be that way. But, it is - and you only have to look at some of the highlights of your own record to see why your role is so vitally important ...

"In the first action you ever took, you led Congress to pass the ban on partial birth abortion. I'm sure you remember: That bill was dead in Conference Committee. The Democrats had bottled it up and tried to riddle it with "poison bullets." And the Republican "leadership" in Washington had given it up for dead.

Then, you stepped in - at that time, a fledging little band of "online activism" pioneers (now numbering 100,000 strong, I might add!). With your ActiFax Blasts, you blew the bill out of Conference Committee and onto the President's desk. And thanks to you, countless thousands of babies' lives have been saved!

"When President Bush nominated Judges Roberts and Alito to the Supreme Court, the Democrats threatened to mount a filibuster that would kill off those nominations without even giving the Senate a chance for an up or down vote. John McCain lead the Republicans in preparing to throw in the towel - before the battle was even joined.

Then, you stepped in with your ActiFax Blasts. You told the every single Republican member of the U.S. Senate to stand up and fight - or face your wrath. In short, you gave them a "spine transplant." And now, thanks to you, both justices are on the nation's Highest Court and serving our country well!

I could go on and on - I'm very proud of you and what you have done - but let me give you just one more example of where you as a Laptop Leader personally defined "Leadership" and "Victory."

"Late last year, the Republican members of the Senate and House were ready to throw in the towel and throw open our borders to invading hordes of illegal aliens. Then, when millions of illegals and their supporters took to the streets waving the Mexican flag in an outrageous display of anti-American zealotry, the politicians trembled in their boots and threw in outright amnesty.

And that's when you stepped in with your avalanche of ActiFax Blasts. Not just once - but on three different occasions - you told the Republican majority in no uncertain terms that if they opened our borders and granted amnesty to illegal aliens, it was "hasta la vista, baby," in no uncertain terms. And by the time you were done, amnesty was off the table and both Houses of Congress had voted to build a fence!

That's just three quick examples - out of scores - where your grassroots efforts have provided Leadership for others to follow and turned sure defeat into certain Victory.

Now, like Horatio at the Bridge, I am asking you once again to "take a stand on either hand and keep the bridge with me." I know you can do it, because you have done it before. And this time, the war, our troops, and, I believe, our very freedom are at stake.

Our soldiers haven't quit on us -
and we're not going to quit on them!

In closing, please allow me to share with you a brief story that I believe puts all that we now need to do in proper perspective. It touched my heart. I think it will yours, too ...

Recently, while in Houston, I had the honor of presenting a very deserving Laptop family Member with the Laptop Wall of Fame Award. The Award, as you may recall, went to a true Laptop Leader named Sue Tarver. It was the third such Award; the first having gone to Bill and Marylin Bartels out in Olney, Illinois; the second posthumously to Donna Cabella, who only days before had gone to be with the Lord. One day soon, I hope you get to meet Sue, Bill, and Marylin. I know you'll be proud to claim them as your own.

Sue's husband, Chuck, is a highly decorated Vietnam veteran, who had once been a much-heralded Marine drill instructor. Though now, he is what I can only call a "gentle giant," there is no doubt in my mind he had struck fear in the soul of many a raw recruit.

But, that was not all he struck in their hearts. And that's what's important to what you and I need to do now to help the President and our troops win (that's right, win) the War in Iraq.

I asked Chuck if he ever had a recruit who just didn't have what it took to make it through boot camp ... someone who just didn't seem to fit the mold of "The few. The proud. The Marines."

He paused, and I could see that he was reflecting back in mind's eye over thousands of dusty marches ... millions of push ups and squat thrusts ... hour upon hour of crawling through muddy swamps and scaling the direst heights.

Finally, he said, "There was one old boy. He was big and he was awkward. And he just couldn't seem to get it. The other instructors, and even some of my commanders, told me just to let him go, because sooner or later he was going to quit anyway, and then it would just reflect on me.

"Well, I told them that, 'No, I wasn't going to muster him out - because he wasn't going to quit. And, that's what I liked about him. He may finish last in every run. He may drop over during the drills and stumble when he climbed. But he never quit on me. And I wasn't going to quit on him.'"

"So what became of him?" I asked. "Did he quit?"

Chuck smiled as Sue answered for him: "On graduation day, as that young man marched out, his mother came over to me with tears streaming down her face and said, 'Please tell your husband, I said thank you. He made a man of my boy."

Our soldiers in Iraq aren't quitting. You and I aren't quitting. And we're not about to let the Republicans in Congress quit on them either.

That's why I asking you to join me now in teaching the politicians two new words that they seem never to have learned or have long since forgotten:

"Leadership"

and

"Victory."

We simply will no longer accept less. I look forward to hearing from you.

#1. To: Bryan M (#0) (Edited)

Should the Republicans support the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan? Absolutely! Is that the same as supporting this insane military action? Absolutely not!

First, to call this a "war" is a lie. It was not properly declared against either Iraq or Afghanistan as demanded by the Constitution. Further, you cannot logically have a "war on terror"! But it works well in the press and for the powers-that-be to sell their evil deeds to the American people.

Second, this "war on terror" is really just a military action to gain control of both countries (Somalia is next) from the standpoint of their banking, trade and economic activities. Period. The power elite behind the scenes pulling GW's strings to act as he has is what the average American does not know and must learn soon. It's all about money not "democracy" except if it will help them gain control as above. But you won't hear any of that from our stifled press.

Third, if they really care about our troops, they will cause an immediate withdrawal of all American troops and citizens NOW. We shouldn't have been there in the first place and cannot win this "war" without more lethal means which none of us want to see. We seem to forget that the "insurgents" are not insurgents at all! What would the Americans do if someone invaded San Francisco by sea or invaded our country be crossing the Canadian border IF we were, for the most part, unarmed? Wouldn't we do whatever we could to kill them off and/or make them go away? Escalating our troop count will not make the problem go away. That can only come if by deadly means, they kill each and every Iraqi with courage to fight back with whatever means possible.

Fourth, let's DEMAND of our Congress that they must act in full compliance of the US Constitution and not in compliance with the power elite international banking syndicate. They must get us out of Iraq and every other country the imperialists think we need to be in. They must abolish the Federal Reserve Act and take control of our own monetary system immediately - no more allegiance to the private banksters. They must take back all of the responsibilities that the Constitution demands of Congress.

Fifth and finally, we must bring to trial all who are or have been involved in the current war crimes and crimes against the American people such as Bush Sr, Clinton, Bush Jr and their cabinet actors and many others. No more hand slaps for their belligerent actions.

But then, I dream of a better America which may only come to us when we rise up against them. I pray it won't be necessary.

A good start to educating the American population is by viewing Aaron Russo's feature film, America: Freedom to Fascism. Please spread THAT word! Thank you and God Bless.
