Hi Carter,

After reading the LaptopAmerica manifesto, I don't see how LaptopAmerica could support any Republican, certainly not president Bush and this administration. I realize that sounds cynical, but please name one prominent Republican in either the House or Senate or the administration that would be 100% in compliance. Name any Republican who would pass such a litmus test 100 percent.

While I generally agree with the manifesto, I don't believe that Republican platforms are always correct. It's my belief that anyone who would pledge never to stray from a party platform no matter the issue doesn't deserve to hold office as their loyalty would be to the party rather than to America and it founding principles. Unfortunately, 100 percenters usually are unable to compromise, and politics is the art of compromise. Compromise is not a bad word, as long as basic fundamental principles aren't abandoned.

The well deserved loss by the Republicans is due to their failure to live up to the Republican Contract With America written in 1994. I can't think of one point that was implemented. That type of cowardly conduct is going on today. Consider the law regarding the proposed border fence. It's all words with no teeth. There's no appropriations provisions in the law. Further more, it would allow a lot an ancillary projects such as roads and lighting to be built with not one chain link. then there's the super highway to Kansas city from Mexico.

Despite this unpopular and misunderstood war as a significant factor, had the Republican stayed true to their traditional principles they could have weathered even the misgivings about the war.

No, my friend, I believe the Republican Party has lost its way by betraying conservative principles and is probably beyond redemption barring a miracle. As I have mention to you before, I have been a registered Republican almost all my adult life. No longer as I can't support a party that's lost its vision, its courage, and its integrity, and is more interested in clinging onto access to money and power. Republican politicians, save one or two, are more interested in raiding the public trough for their share of the pork.

Between the pork barrel politics, the earmarks, the refusal to overturn the Kelo Decision which ended private property rights in American, the refusal to legislate meaningful protections against illegal aliens from entering the country, and even forcing states to pay out benefits to the illegals that even disabled unemployed veterans like me can't get, the Republican Party and this administration have forfeited any right to expect our loyalty or support. Also, please remember that without property rights there are no political rights. With the Republican Party and its leaders, security seems to be more important than our constitutional rights. I can imagine Benjamin Franklin spinning in his grave.

It's time conservatives formed a third party based on Constitutional law for a democratic Republic tempered with true compassionate conservatism. And while that will give the party of licentiousness, death, appeasement, and the nanny welfare state sway for years (the Democrats in case you weren't aware I was referring to them), it will be necessary if a Republic founded on our Founding Fathers dreams is to survive.

May God help us, as no one else will. And may the people called by His name repent and turn back to Him, as He has promised them to heal their country if they do.

Your friend, Bob
